Behavior is entirely Dependent On Self-Image
The data in the subconscious mind governs the self-image and the self-image controls our effectiveness. It then becomes obvious that if we want to change our behavior, we must add information to the subconscious that will reflect itself in that behavior.
Human beings are always changing and growing. They have an insatiable, never-ending need to better themselves. Around the self-image is built everything they do. It is the core of their being.
Moment by moment you make your claims on life, monitor your experiences, attend to sensory impressions, experience your body and its functions, your mind and its thoughts. This way you can discover yourself. You record your triumphs, failures and even humiliations, they are all yours.
There will be aspects of yourself that will puzzle you, as well as such aspects you are not aware of. So long you are self-accepting you will put the pieces together.
This will be your Self-Image. How you look, what you say, what you think and do, what you feel and believe at this very moment - all this is you. This is the image you yourself have defined.
We carry with us own blue print or picture of our selves.
Why is this self-image so important? Without question, the essential key to human personality and behavior is the self-image. Even our achievements are limited by how we view ourselves. If our self-image is altered, our behavior and personality are affected by the change.
All our expectations, desires, relations with others, our performance, opportunities all depend entirely how we evaluate our selves.
"This sane mechanism within you can help you to achieve your opinions that you have perceived and
stored about yourself. It is the subconscious picture of yourself that was recorded from what you thought you were perceiving about your potential and the world around you and the picture controls how you think and perform."
"An image not only invokes what is not present but enables us to retain an emotional disposition
towards an absent person. Images soon become a foundation of inner reality towards an absent object. The image of your mother may evoke the love you feel for her, or hate; even after her death, her image remains with you and so does your love and hatred for her. Image becomes a substitute for external object. It is actually inner object, that is a product of mind, In order to have a true visual image of your mother, you have seen her in the external world but when an image is formed that image is a part of you, of your inner life."
"Although no image can produce reality absolutely, the countless images that have been filed in your minds archives shape and form the image that you have about yourself and the world around you. At times you may want to remove yourself from reality, you may want to have an alternative; it is then you visualize things in a different ways."
"Attaining image of your choice may not only be an attempt to gratify a longing desire for that which is not available, but may also be springboard to creativity. If your images can reproduce something desirable that exists but that is not available, you may be motivated to act, to search and to find the object. If the desired object is not available you may create it."
(Quotations from, 'A New Self-Image' by Dr. Peter M. Kalellis)
Human development is important as external reality. The phenomena of images makes a crucial contribution to personality. We have as many types of images as sensations but two prevailing types are of profound importance.
1) Visual
2) Auditory.
These are processed by mind and may not mirror simultaneously equivalents in the external words. An Image is an image and not a reality. You look at your face in the mirror, it is not real you. What the mirror reflects is not a faithful reproduction of yourself; however it causes the experience to produce a feeling related to you.
All you have to learn is how to change this picture by investing a little energy in it, by proven methods which are so easy and close to you that you have over looked them. I t only takes a new look and a new insight.
